Our Journey:
Ramakrishna Mission Brahmananda College of Education at Rahara is a constituent unit of its parent organization, Ramakrishna Mission Boys’ Home, Rahara. The Home was founded on the 1st September, 1944, as an orphanage for giving shelter and education to the hapless boys rendered orphans due to the disastrous infamous Bengal Famine of 1942-43. A handful of monks led by Swami Punnyanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission initially set up the Ashrama as a students’ home; but gradually it spread its wings in the fields of education and formed an educational complex around the Ashrama of which our College is an integral part.
The College was established on the 17th February, 1961 as Ramakrishna Mission Boys' Home P.G.B.T. College. In 1963, on the occasion of holy Birth Centenary of Srimat Swami Brahmanandaji Maharaj, the Brother-Disciple of Swami Vivekananda and the first President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, the College was renamed as Ramakrishna Mission Boys' Home Brahmananda Post-Graduate Basic Training (P.G.B.T.) College. The College building was opened on the 8th August, 1962 by Srimat Swami Madhabanandaji Maharaj, the 9th President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission and it started functioning under the direct control of the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI), West Bengal. As a PGBT College it has a glorious past.
Since the academic session of 1999-2000, Ramakrishna Mission Boys' Home Brahmananda P.G.B.T. College was converted to a Teacher Education Institute (B.Ed. College) and has been renamed as Ramakrishna Mission Brahmananda College of Education after being affiliated to the University of Calcutta (CU).
From the academic session of 2008-2009 the College was affiliated to the West Bengal State University (WBSU), Barasat, and since the academic session of 2016-2017 the College has been affiliated to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University (BSAEU) [ Erstwhile: The West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration (WBUTTEPA) ].
